Change record

Klaviyo pricing changes

In February 2025 Klaviyo raised a great many bills without moving a single published price. It changed the number the price is charged against, from the profiles an account emails to every profile it holds. Everything recorded since has been a meter added beside that one.

Checked 25 September 2026 against snapshot 3. 11 recorded events. The February 2025 rules were read from the Klaviyo billing FAQ. Verified

Why Klaviyo is recorded here and not in the pricing tables

Klaviyo prints its Email ladder on its own pricing page. The slider there steps through 49 stops from 500 to 150,000 active profiles and shows a monthly price and a monthly send allowance at each one. All eight breakpoints on this site are stops the slider prints, and every cell below was read off it on 25 September 2026. Every stop, with the price a list between two stops pays, is on the Klaviyo pricing page.

The 45 dollar figure that circulates is the 1,500 profile stop, which comes with 15,000 sends. It is not the entry price. The entry stop is $20 a month for 500 profiles and 5,000 sends. The page also shows a first month promotion at that stop, which is a discount on one bill rather than the price.

Klaviyo still stays out of the comparison tables, the free plan records, the contact counting records and the cell counts. Moving it in needs a free plan record, a contact counting record and a changelog entry, and it changes the vendor count that several titles carry. When that happens the move gets a changelog entry of its own.

It is not the only vendor in that position. Omnisend is recorded on the same terms. Both sell through a calculator rather than a printed table, and both ladders are now read off their own pricing pages. That is the shape of ecommerce email pricing rather than a coincidence about two companies.

The Email plan, cell by cell

Month to month billing. Klaviyo publishes no self serve annual discount, so the annual column is empty rather than derived from a rate that does not exist.

Prices are compiled from public vendor pages and can lag behind a change. Cells marked Der are calculated from published rules and cells marked Est are rough figures. Neither is an invoice or a quote, so confirm with the vendor before you spend.

Every cell in Klaviyo Email, with the note and source behind it.

All 8 cells are read off the Klaviyo pricing slider. The plan carries 10 times the profile count in monthly sends, so the send allowance grows with the tier rather than being bought.

The shape worth noticing is the step above 10,000 profiles. The bands below it climb in increments of 10 to 20 dollars. Between 10,000 and 25,000 the price rises by $250, and it nearly doubles again by 50,000. A store that grows through that stretch feels the ladder rather than the tier.

The change that moved every bill without moving a price

Announced 14 January 2025 and in force from 18 February 2025. Five things changed at once, and none of them was a number on the pricing page.

LimitUntil 17 Feb 2025From 18 Feb 2025What it means
What sets the tierProfiles emailedEvery active profileAn active profile is anyone the account is allowed to email, including never subscribed contacts. Suppressed profiles stay out of the count. A list built over years now bills whether it is mailed or not.
Moving up a tierManualAutomaticPassing the profile limit upgrades the plan at the start of the next billing cycle, and there is no opt out for the profile limit.
Moving down a tierManualOpt inAuto downgrade exists but is off by default, so a list that shrinks keeps paying the larger tier until someone finds the setting in billing preferences.
Suppressing againAny timeAfter 90 daysOnce a profile is unsuppressed it cannot be suppressed again for 90 days, so waking dormant contacts for one campaign carries them on the bill for three cycles.
Legacy accountsLeft aloneMoved tooThe 2024 changes only applied to new signups. This one applied to existing accounts automatically, cushioned by a discount rather than by a grace period.
Klaviyo billing rules either side of the February 2025 change, read from the Klaviyo billing FAQ and checked 9 September 2026. An active profile is any profile the account is allowed to email. Suppressed profiles are the only ones outside the count.

A pricing page read the day before and the day after would have looked identical. That is the reason this page exists: a change that never touches a published number is invisible to anyone comparing pricing pages, and it is still the largest recorded increase on this site by the number of accounts it reached.

The two rules that decide a Klaviyo bill in practice are the ones in the middle of that table. Passing a profile band upgrades the plan on its own, and dropping below one does not downgrade it unless auto downgrade has been switched on, because it ships off. A bill therefore moves up by itself and only moves down when somebody goes looking for a setting.

The same account, before and after

A store holding 25,000 profiles and emailing 10,000 of them. Nothing about how it sends changed on 18 February 2025.

How the tier is pickedMonthlyConfidenceNote
Billed on profiles emailed$150VerifiedWhat the account paid until 17 February 2025, when the tier followed the 10,000 profiles it actually emailed. 100,000 monthly sends came with it.
Billed on profiles held$400VerifiedWhat the same account pays from 18 February 2025, because the tier follows all 25,000 active profiles whether they are emailed or not. The sending did not change.
Two recorded Klaviyo Email cells set against each other. This is arithmetic on the ladder rather than an invoice anyone was shown, and it assumes the account was on a profile band matching what it emailed before the change.

That is $250 a month, or $3,000 a year, for a list the account already had and was already choosing not to email. The lists that moved furthest were large and partly dormant, which is what an online store accumulates by running for a few years and collecting an address at every signup and every checkout.

Suppressing profiles is the way back down, and the 90 day lock is what makes it a decision. Once a profile has been unsuppressed it cannot be suppressed again for 90 days, so waking dormant contacts for one sale carries them on the bill for three cycles.

What changed, in order

Oldest first. Three entries share 18 February 2025 because three rules landed together, and the profile rule is the one the other two hang off.

Klaviyo moved billing onto active profiles

Announced on 14 January 2025 and in force from 18 February 2025. Before it, the bill followed the profiles an account actually emailed. After it, the bill follows every active profile held, which means everyone the account is allowed to email whether a campaign reaches them or not. Suppressed profiles are the only ones outside the count. Unlike the 2024 changes, which only applied to new signups, this one moved existing and legacy accounts automatically.

Effect on a bill. No published price moved. The number those prices are charged against did. A store holding 20,000 profiles while emailing 8,000 of them went from the 150 dollar tier to the 375 dollar tier without changing anything it does. The lists that moved furthest were the large, partly dormant ones, which is what a store accumulates by running for a few years.

Tier upgrades became automatic and downgrades became opt in

Three mechanics landed with the profile rule. Passing the profile limit upgrades the plan at the start of the next billing cycle, with no opt out. Auto downgrade exists but ships off, so it has to be switched on in billing preferences. A profile that has been unsuppressed cannot be suppressed again for 90 days.

Effect on a bill. The bill moves up on its own and only moves down when someone finds a setting. Cleaning a list is still the way to cut a Klaviyo bill, but reactivating dormant contacts for one sale carries them for three billing cycles before they can be suppressed again.

  3. Estimate

An appreciation discount capped the increase at 25 percent

Accounts created before April 2024 were given a discount that holds the increase from the profile rule to 25 percent. It shrinks if the account downgrades and does not grow if it upgrades. Accounts opened from April 2024 were already billed the new way and did not qualify. Sources disagree on whether the cap covers only the first month or stays on the account, which is why this entry is an estimate.

Effect on a bill. It softened the change rather than removing it, and the size of the cap says how large the jumps would otherwise have been. An older account carrying the discount pays less than the published tier for the same list, so an invoice and the ladder do not have to match.

Klaviyo aligned the usage cycle with the billing cycle

Until 8 October 2025 the send allowance reset at midnight on the billing anniversary while the invoice ran to a different time on the same day. Both now end together. Only the time changed and the billing date stayed where it was.

Effect on a bill. Small, and it removes a gap. Sends that landed in the window between the two cycles used to count against a month the invoice had already closed.

Klaviyo started prorating its add on products

From 24 October 2025 purchases of Customer Hub, Marketing Analytics and the Advanced Klaviyo Data Platform are prorated rather than charged in full for the cycle they are bought in.

Effect on a bill. Buying an add on part way through a cycle now costs the part of the cycle it is used for. It cuts the cost of trying one, and it makes the first invoice after a purchase smaller than the standing rate.

  6. Estimate

The Klaviyo Customer Agent introductory rate ran out

Customer Agent was sold at 140 dollars a month as an introductory rate through 31 March 2026, against a standard rate of 200 dollars a month. The base covers 50 conversations and further conversations are charged individually. One tracker carries these figures and no Klaviyo page this dataset reads confirms them, so the entry is an estimate.

Effect on a bill. An add on, not the profile plan, so the price ladder on this page is unchanged. For an account that had bought the agent at the introductory rate it is a step of roughly 43 percent on that line of the bill.

Klaviyo put a credit meter next to the profile meter

Composer, the Klaviyo marketing agent introduced in private beta on 24 March 2026, moved to public beta on 30 June 2026, and Customer Agent became a platform sold on its own. Composer work is measured in credits drawn from a pool rather than billed against the profile count.

Effect on a bill. An account that used to be billed on one number is now billed on several. The profile plan still sets the base, and agent credits, mobile messages and the analytics products each run their own meter beside it.

Klaviyo recorded, and kept out of the cross vendor tables

Klaviyo now has a vendor module holding the Email plan at all eight breakpoints, the free plan limits, the February 2025 profile billing change and the enterprise threshold. It is not in the six vendor comparison set. Klaviyo runs a plan picker instead of printing a ladder, so every stop is recorded from independent trackers rather than read off a vendor page, and the entry price disagrees between the picker and the trackers.

Effect on a bill. No published price moved and no existing cell changed. The pricing tables, the cheapest column, the free plan records and the cell counts still cover the same six vendors. Klaviyo enters those tables when its ladder can be read off a Klaviyo page, and that will get an entry of its own.

  9. Estimate

Klaviyo free plan now states its allowances as dollars of credit

The Klaviyo pricing page gives the free plan 250 active profiles, 500 emails a month, 5 dollars of mobile messages and 5 dollars of Composer usage. Trackers writing about the same plan in 2026 describe 150 SMS credits and no agent allowance. The date on this entry is the day SideBySend first recorded the credit lines, not a date Klaviyo published, which is why it is an estimate.

Effect on a bill. The two limits that decide whether the free plan is usable did not move: 250 profiles and 500 emails a month, which is two campaigns to a full list. What changed is that the extras are now metered in dollars, so the free plan carries a second and a third meter that can run out on their own.

Klaviyo Email ladder read off the Klaviyo pricing page

The Klaviyo pricing page slider prints 49 Email stops from 500 to 150,000 active profiles, each with a monthly price and a send allowance of 10 times the profile count, and a custom plan above that. All eight Klaviyo breakpoints on this site are stops the slider prints, so all eight cells now cite that page. Seven were recorded from tracker agreement and the 500 profile stop was an estimate. The 45 dollar figure that circulated is the 1,500 profile stop, not the entry price.

Effect on a bill. No Klaviyo price moved. Eight cells are now verified from the vendor page. The 500 profile stop stays at 20 dollars, the list price, and the first month promotion shown beside it is not recorded as the price. Klaviyo stays out of the six vendor tables.

/klaviyo-pricing lists every Email stop the Klaviyo pricing slider prints, from 500 to 150,000 active profiles, with the price a list between two stops pays labeled derived. It also records which profiles count toward the bill, how send overage and plan moves work, and the free plan, read off the Klaviyo billing help and pricing page on 25 September 2026.

Effect on a bill. No Klaviyo cell moved. Klaviyo stays out of the six vendor tables and out of the cell counts.

What sits on top of the profile plan

Mobile messages, WhatsApp, reviews, the analytics products and the AI agents are separate meters bought beside the Email plan, and none of them are in the numbers on this page. The pattern since 2025 has been to add meters rather than to raise the ladder: proration arrived for the data and analytics add ons in October 2025, and agent credits arrived through 2026.

The free plan now shows the same pattern. It holds 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month, and beside those it carries $5 of mobile messages and $5 of agent usage. The two limits that decide whether it is usable have not moved. What changed is that three meters can now run out instead of one.
