beehiiv pricing at fixed list sizes

beehiiv bills on active subscribers at eight published stops and never charges for sends, which makes it the easiest vendor in this dataset to place at a fixed list size. The awkward part is higher up: above 5,000 subscribers the trackers that read the Scale ladder do not agree with each other.

Top line is month to month billing. Second line is the per month cost of paying for a year up front, which beehiiv publishes as a standing rate rather than a promotion.

Prices are compiled from public vendor pages and can lag behind a change. Cells marked Der are calculated from published rules and cells marked Est are rough figures. Neither is an invoice or a quote, so confirm with the vendor before you spend.

Below 2,500 subscribers, paying buys features and not capacity

Launch is free through 2,500 subscribers, and the paid ladder starts at the 1,000 subscriber stop. Those two facts overlap across the first three breakpoints, so a publisher with 2,000 people on the list can pay $69 for Scale or nothing for Launch, and get the same sending capacity either way.

What the money buys at that size is the ad network, paid subscriptions, digital products and automations, none of which Launch includes. That is a real reason to pay, and it is a different reason from the one the rest of this dataset measures. Everywhere else the bill goes up because the list got bigger. Here it goes up because the newsletter started earning.

The comparison the other way round is worth reading too. Free plan ceilings across all six vendors puts the 2,500 subscriber Launch ceiling next to a Mailchimp free plan that holds 250 contacts and sends 500 emails a month.

How beehiiv decides what to charge

beehiiv bills on active subscribers at fixed tier stops of 1,000, 2,500, 5,000, 10,000, 25,000, 50,000, 75,000 and 100,000. Sends are unlimited, so volume never moves the bill. An active subscriber is one who has not unsubscribed and has not been marked inactive, so paused, pending and inactive subscriptions sit outside the billable count. The subscriber limit applies across every publication in a workspace, not per publication, and above 100,000 subscribers the only option is an Enterprise quote.

Unlimited sends is the part that changes how the number should be read. A daily newsletter and a quarterly one pay beehiiv the same amount at the same list size, which is not true of any send metered vendor. Per contact against per send sets out what that does to a comparison.

The subscriber limit is counted across every publication in a workspace rather than per publication, so running three newsletters off one account adds their lists together before the tier is picked. Above 100,000 subscribers there is no public price at all, only an Enterprise quote, which is why the last column of the table is the end of the readable ladder rather than the end of the product.

Which subscribers reach the bill

beehiiv bills active subscribers, and the gap between active and mailable is where the surprises live.

beehiiv defines an active subscriber as one who has not unsubscribed and has not been marked inactive, and the tier follows the active count. Paused, pending and inactive subscriptions are all outside it.

Suppression is not the same as unsubscribing. beehiiv's own advice for working out who can actually receive a send is to take the active count and subtract the suppression list, which means suppressed addresses sit inside the number that sets the bill. The bounced answer is derived from that instruction rather than from a billing statement, so it is marked derived.

The cross vendor version of this question, asked of all six vendors for unsubscribed, bounced and unconfirmed contacts, is on who bills unsubscribed contacts.

Where these numbers are soft

Short version: the bottom of the ladder is read straight off the page and the top is not.

What the table cannot show

  • Unsubscribing someone moves them to inactive and out of the billable count, so dead weight does not climb the ladder on its own. Suppressed addresses are the exception: beehiiv's own guidance is to subtract the suppression list from the active count to see who can actually be mailed, which means an account can pay for addresses that are filtered at send time.
  • Snapshot 1 recorded the beehiiv subscriber count as including inactive subscribers. That was wrong and it was corrected in snapshot 2.
  • Snapshot 3 reread Scale and Max off the beehiiv pricing calculator. The published ladder matched the figures already recorded, including the stops above 5,000 subscribers that trackers had disputed.
  • Everything above 100,000 subscribers is an Enterprise quote with no public price.
  • The revenue features that make beehiiv attractive, the ad network and paid subscriptions, sit on Scale and above, so the free plan is not a like for like comparison.

Recorded beehiiv changes

No beehiiv price move has been recorded yet. The only entry against this vendor is a correction to the dataset itself.

  1. Eighteen per-size cost pages now redirect to their vendor pricing pages

Eighteen cost pages that repeated one row of a vendor ladder now redirect permanently to that row on the vendor pricing page: four for MailerLite (1,000, 2,500, 5,000 and 25,000 subscribers), five for Constant Contact (500, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 25,000 contacts), four for SendGrid Marketing Campaigns (10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000 stored contacts), two each for Omnisend (5,000 and 10,000) and Flodesk (2,500 and 5,000), and one for beehiiv (5,000). Every row now has an address on its hub, such as /constant-contact-pricing#10000. The figures that lived only on the old pages moved with them: included sends and cost per 1,000 sends for Constant Contact, and the three email volume readings per stored contact stop for SendGrid Marketing Campaigns. Constant Contact send overage, SMS and yearly price figures were read again on its pricing page on 4 October 2026.

Effect on a bill. No price moved. Old links and bookmarks keep working through the redirects. The pages for MailerLite at 10,000, beehiiv at 10,000 and 25,000, and Constant Contact at 2,500 stay as they were.

  2. beehiiv pricing changes page recorded

/beehiiv-pricing-changes records the 19 April 2024 Launch/Scale/Max structure move, free Launch at 2,500 subscribers, deferred legacy increases from 1 August 2024, and current verified Scale/Max entry dollars from official beehiiv sources. No invented mid-year sticker date.

Effect on a bill. No beehiiv cell moved. The change record links to /beehiiv-pricing and the cost-at-N children.

  3. HubSpot vs beehiiv pricing page recorded

/hubspot-vs-beehiiv-pricing compares HubSpot Marketing Hub catalog USD (edition bases, Core Seats, marketing-contact packs) against beehiiv LIVE Launch, Scale and Max ladders. Worked examples derive pack math from verified catalog bands. No invented HubSpot eight-breakpoint matrix. Launch empties above 2,500 left empty. Swap from /activecampaign-cost-2500 because ActiveCampaign Starter, Plus and Professional at 2,500 are derived calculator reads, not verified official bands. Did not queue /flodesk-vs-beehiiv-pricing because LIVE /beehiiv-vs-flodesk-pricing already covers that pair.

Effect on a bill. No HubSpot catalog or beehiiv cell moved. The comparison page links to /hubspot-marketing-hub-pricing, /beehiiv-pricing and HubSpot-vs siblings.

  9. beehiiv vs Flodesk pricing page recorded

/beehiiv-vs-flodesk-pricing compares LIVE beehiiv Scale/Max and Flodesk Lite/Pro/Everything dated ladders at the eight SideBySend breakpoints. Launch free through 2,500 is called out. Flodesk 100,000 stays empty on every plan. No invented mid-tier dollars.

Effect on a bill. No beehiiv or Flodesk cell moved. Both parent pricing pages and the cost-at-N children link in. Mid-tail vs sibling of /beehiiv-vs-mailerlite-pricing.

  10. beehiiv cost at 5,000 contacts page recorded

/beehiiv-cost-5000 deep-dives Launch, Scale and Max at 5,000 subscribers using the same beehiiv calculator cells already on the parent ladder. Scale and Max are verified at 89 and 169 dollars. Launch stays empty because it is not sold above 2,500 subscribers.

Effect on a bill. No beehiiv cell moved. The cost-at-N child, the 10,000 and 25,000 contact siblings and /beehiiv-pricing link to each other.

  11. beehiiv vs MailerLite pricing page recorded

/beehiiv-vs-mailerlite-pricing compares LIVE beehiiv Scale/Max and MailerLite Comfort/Power dated ladders at the eight SideBySend breakpoints. Launch free through 2,500 is called out. Comfort send metering against unlimited beehiiv sends. No invented mid-tier dollars.

  12. beehiiv cost at 25,000 contacts page recorded

/beehiiv-cost-25000 deep-dives Launch, Scale and Max at the 25,000 subscriber stop using the same beehiiv dataset cells already on the parent ladder. Scale is verified at 169 dollars and Max at 289. Launch stays empty because it is not sold at this size.

Effect on a bill. No beehiiv cell moved. The cost-at-N child, the 10,000 contact sibling and /beehiiv-pricing link to each other.

  13. beehiiv cost at 10,000 contacts page recorded

/beehiiv-cost-10000 deep-dives Launch, Scale and Max at the 10,000 subscriber stop using the same beehiiv dataset cells already on the parent ladder. Scale is verified at 109 dollars and Max at 219. Launch stays empty because it is not sold at this size.

Effect on a bill. No beehiiv cell moved. The cost-at-N child and /beehiiv-pricing link to each other.

  14. beehiiv vs Kit pricing page recorded

/beehiiv-vs-kit-pricing compares beehiiv Scale and Max with Kit Creator and Creator Pro at the eight SideBySend breakpoints, using the same beehiiv and Kit datasets already on the vendor pages. Both sides include unlimited sends. Kit Newsletter covers five free breakpoints; beehiiv Launch covers three.

Effect on a bill. No beehiiv or Kit cell moved. The page sits beside /beehiiv-vs-mailchimp-pricing as another newsletter stack comparison.

  15. beehiiv Scale and Max calculator matches the recorded ladder

The beehiiv pricing calculator was stepped through the published subscriber stops on monthly billing. Scale prints 49, 69, 89, 109, 169, 249 and 329 dollars and Max prints 109, 149, 169, 219, 289, 379 and 459 at the 1,000 through 100,000 stops already held in the dataset.

Effect on a bill. No beehiiv dollar moved. Cells above 5,000 subscribers that were marked derived because trackers disagreed are now verified.

  16. Correction: MailerLite and beehiiv do not bill unsubscribed contacts

Snapshot 1 recorded both vendors as counting unsubscribed or inactive contacts until they were deleted. Their own help pages say the opposite. MailerLite counts unique subscribers with an active status only. beehiiv counts active subscribers, and unsubscribing moves someone to inactive and out of that count. The billing notes and caveats on both vendors were rewritten.

Effect on a bill. Both vendors are cheaper to run with a churning list than snapshot 1 implied. The real catch on MailerLite is the cumulative count inside a billing cycle, and on beehiiv it is that suppressed addresses stay inside the active count.

beehiiv joined the dataset at the first snapshot on 8 September 2026, so there is not much history to read yet. Anything that moves will appear in the change history with a date and a source.
